How to Choose a High Chair

What to Look For in a High Chair

Baby meets food somewhere between four and six months (make sure to check with your own pediatrician). So before that happens, you’ll need a high chair. Like most baby gear, there’s a whole slew of factors to consider, so let us walk you through it all with everything to consider when selecting a high chair for your baby.

Space:

High chairs can have a larger footprint than you anticipate. If you’re short on space, opt for one that hooks on to a table/island/counter. You’ll also use it when you go to restaurants. Or go the booster seat route and plop it in a kitchen chair (don’t worry, they securely strap on and have a harness).

Style:

Some are minimalist and sleek, some are a bit larger but oh-so functional. Decide what’s more important to you. If it’s the former, choose one that either goes with your home decor style or can be stashed away easily.

Longevity:

Some high chairs grow with your child and can be turned into toddler seats or boosters with a separate conversion kit. Definitely a bonus, but not a must, so decide what's important to you before you purchase.

Durability:

Do you plan on having more than one child? If so, it may be worth investing in a solid high chair with all the bells and whistles.

Clean Up:

Is the tray dishwasher-safe? Is the seat part wipeable or washable? Are there nooks and crannies where crumbs and food could get stuck? Take a good look.

Bells & Whistles:

Do you want storage space for toys/books? Do you want one that moves easily? If so, be sure it has wheels or gliders. If you and your partner have a big height difference, you may want the chair to be adjustable.
